Hinges and Hardware 101 - Offset or Swage?

Which operation do you need to do on your hinge leaves to fit your application?  First, we can discuss what each term means.   Swaging typically describes pushing the leaf or leaves of a hinge towards the barrel.  Or in this picture, Up.  Offset typically describes pushing the leaf or leaves away from the barrel.  Or in this picture, Down.
