Secondary Operations

Many secondaries available for custom hinges: holes, notches, forming and offsets, PEMâ„¢ fasteners, springs and finishes. (See information about dimensioning countersunk holes in sheetmetal.)

Holes

Many designs for holes (also called perforating or punching) are available.  Just about any pattern can be provided. You just need to supply a sketch or drawing of what you need and we will be pleased to quote. Displayed below are a number of terms used describe holes types and patterns:

[Hinge Terms]

Notches

Notches are commonly done to the ends of the hinge leaf or leaves.  Some types are displayed below:

Forming and Offsets

Displayed below are the normal forms that are requested on hinge leaves, along with terminology and how to correctly dimension them.

Springs

[torsion springs] We will be pleased to help you in the design of spring hinge applications. We have available Hinge and Spring Hinge Design Form that will guide you through the information we need to provide you with the correct product - or send us your drawing of the part.  If anything is missing, we'll contact you.

Finishes

A wide variety of finishes can be provided on our hinges. We have a number of excellent platers who have experience with hinges. We will consider any of your finish requirements and will make every effort to quote your requirements. Please note that we do no plating or finishing in house.

End Knuckles

Hinges, with an overall length equal to a multiple of full knuckles, are normally supplied with full end knuckles. If the overall length is not an even knuckle increment, the hinges may be supplied with equal partial (balanced) end knuckles or a full knuckle on one end and a partial knuckle on the other. The decision on which is supplied is usually best determined when we are quoting a part.

Other

We can install PEMâ„¢ fasteners, weld studs or just about any fastener or device you want to hinge. Displayed below is a hinge with a tether attached so the pin would not be lost when the hinge was disassembled for door removal.
